Events Calendar For The Year 2010

09 Apr 2010           Friday 09 April is Vimy Ridge Day. I have been advised by the Director that this year the ceremony will again be held and we have been requested to attend with a Colour Party. Details TBA.

02-10 May 2010    Annual Liberation Ceremonies in the Netherlands . On Sunday 2 May we will travel to the Netherlands where limited accommodations have been arranged at the Military Kaserne in Ede . The following is an overview of events we have been requested to attend:

                            Monday 03 May a Ceremony at the Canadian War Cemetery in Groesbeek

                            Tuesday 04 May a Ceremony at the Canadian War Cemetery in Holten

                            Wednesday 05 May participate at the parade in Wageningen

                            Thursday 06 May a Ceremony at the Canadian War Cemetery in Bergen-Op-Zoom

                            Friday 07 May visit the Palace 't Loo, Museum in Apeldoorn

                            Saturday 08 Zone Meeting in Lochem

                            Sunday 09 May Apeldoorn Parade

                            Monday 10 May return home.

02 May 2010          Branch 003 will participate in the annual ceremonies at Hotten and Bure in Belgium . For information of this event contact an executive member of Branch 003

30 May 2010         Sunday 30 May Branch 004 will host a Remembrance Ceremony in Werl marking the 40th Anniversary of the departure of the Canadians from this area. For more information regarding this event contact an executive member of Branch 004.

13-16 Jun 2010      Dominion Convention in Winnipeg , Manitoba   

01 Jul 2010             Thursday 01 July there will be the annual Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial Service.

01 Jul 2010             Thursday 01 Jul Branches will celebrate Canada Day with scheduled events as appropriate. For info contact your Branch.

17 Jul 2010             Thursday 17 July Branch 005 will do a ceremony in support of the Canadian Military Contingent that participates in the Nijmegen March at the Canadian War Cemetery at Groesbeek.

?? Aug 2010          Branch 003 will participate in the Ceremony at the De La Haye Memorial in Belgium . For details contact an executive member of Branch 003.

21 Aug 2010         Saturday 21 Aug a Zone Meeting will be held at 1400 hours at Branch 002 in Lahr.

11-12 Sep 2010      Attend the Annual Liberation Ceremonies in Belgium . On Friday 10 September members will travel to Belgium where limited accommodation will be arranged at the Naval Barracks in Sint-Kruis, near Brugge. The following is an overview of scheduled events we will attend:

Saturday 11 Sep at approximately 0830 hours we will parade the Colours and attend the ceremony that commences the Operation Switchback March scheduled to be held in Aalter. At approximately 1030 hours we will do a ceremony at the Moerbrugge Memorial. In the afternoon we will travel to Ieper (Ypres is about 70 Km from Brugge roughly 1 hour) visit some local memorials like Passendale, the Canadian Memorial and Tyne Cot Cemetery attend the ceremony at the Menin Gate at 2000 hours and return to Barracks.

Sunday 12 September we will depart the Barracks at 0730 hours have breakfast at the Café De Reislust in Adegem. At approximately 0915 hours proceed to the Canadian War Cemetery in Adegem where we will parade the Colours and attend the Liberation of Belgium Ceremony. Following the ceremony we will attend the reception at the community center in Adegem. Visit the Canadian Museum for lunch and return to the Barracks.

?? Oct 2010          Participation at the Annual Royal British Legion 450 Ceremony will be considered depending on the time and date. Details TBA

20 Oct 2010          Wednesday 20 Oct Ceremony at IJzendijke, the Netherlands , if this ceremony develops the Zone Commander and Deputy Zone Commander will travel to Belgium and our Belgium members will form the Colour Party.

06-07 Nov 2010     Friday 05 Nov a Colour Party will depart for France to take part in the Annual Remembrance Day Ceremonies at Beaumont-Hamel on Saturday 06 Nov followed by the Vimy Ceremony on Sunday 07 Nov. Timings, accommodations and details of the events to be announced at a later date.

11 Nov 2010           Thursday 11 November is the Official Remembrance Day in Canada . Branches will host their Remembrance Day Services accordingly as appropriate.

21 Nov 2010           Sunday 21 Nov Branch 001 will host a Remembrance Ceremony at Choloy , France , commemorating the 332 Canadians buried there. Members of other Branches are also welcome and encouraged to attend. Members will meet at the Cemetery in Choloy at 1430 hours. The Colours will be parades to the Cross of Remembrance where a small ceremony will take place. Following the ceremony members will have the opportunity to visit grave of friends. This ceremony is considered basically a day trip so following the ceremony we will depart for home.

Note:  All dates are subject to change. Branches will be notified of amendments, as additional information becomes available. Future requests received by Zone for further ceremonies we may be required to attend will also be added to this list as an amendment notification. This schedule will also be published on the Zone Webpage at www.rcl-europe.org

This schedule was distributed to Branches on 23 November 2009 and will be amended as necessary by the Zone Commander. Additional information pertaining to the schedule and further requests for ceremonies are to be forwarded to the Zone Commander for consideration.
