IJzendijke, the Netherlands

This ceremony pays tribute to the victims of an accidental explosion that occurred on 20 October 1944 . The explosion caused the death of forty-one British and Canadian soldiers and caused injury to another fifty-one some of which would be fatal. The majority of the soldiers present on that fateful day were from 204 Armoured Assault Squadron, Royal Engineers and ten soldiers of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps of the 7th Infantry Brigade. The ceremony takes place in two parts, first a ceremony takes place at the Canadian War Cemetery in Adegen where the soldiers that were found are buried and the second part takes place at the actual site where a memorial has been erected.
