Events Calendar For The Year 2012


17 Mar 2012 - Zone Meeting will be hosted by Branch 005 in Lochem, the Netherlands on Saturday 17 March 2012 at 1400 hours. Branches are requested to provide a list of members that will attend this meeting by mid February 2012. This information will assist Branch 005 in arranging accommodations if required and planning that is necessary to host the meeting.

09 Apr 2012 - Monday 09 April is Vimy Ridge Day. I have been advised by the Director that this year the ceremony will again be held and we have been requested to attend with a Colour Party. Deadline to submit names to attend this ceremony is set at 9 March. Details TBA.

04-05 May 2012 - Annual Liberation Ceremonies in the Netherlands. On Friday 4 May we will participate in the ceremony at the Canadian War Cemetery in Holten. On Saturday 5 May we will provide a Colour Party and participate in the Wageningen parade. Deadline to submit names for the trip to the Netherlands is set at 6 April. Details of these events TBA

06 May 2012 - Sunday 6 May Branch 003 will participate in the annual ceremonies at Hotten and Bure in Belgium. For information of this event contact an executive member of Branch 003

09-13 Jun 2012 - 44th Dominion Convention in Halifax

01 Jul 2012 - Sunday 01 July will be the annual Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial Service. Deadline to submit names for this ceremony is set at 1 June. Details of the event TBA

01 Jul 2012 - Sunday 01 Jul Branches will celebrate Canada Day with scheduled events as appropriate. For info contact your Branch.

19 Jul 2012 - Thursday 19 July Branch 005 will do a ceremony in support of the Canadian Military Contingent that participates in the Nijmegen March at the Canadian War Cemetery at Groesbeek.

28 Jul 2012 - Saturday 28 Jul a Zone Meeting will be held at 1400 hours at Branch 004 located at the Lahr Airfield. Branches are requested to provide a list of members that will attend this meeting by 6 July 2012. This information will assist Branch 004 in arranging accommodations if required and planning that is necessary to host the meeting.

17-20 Aug 2012 - Sunday 19 August will be the 70th Anniversary of the Dieppe Raid. Zone will coordinate our participation with the program established by Veterans Affairs once known. Deadline to submit names for this ceremony is set at 20 July. Details of the events TBA

?? Aug 2012 - Branch 003 will participate in the Ceremony at the De La Haye Memorial in Belgium. For details contact an executive member of Branch 003.

08-09 Sep 2012 - Attend the Annual Liberation Ceremonies in Belgium. On Friday 07 September members will travel to Belgium where limited accommodation will be arranged at the Naval Barracks in Sint-Kruis, near Brugge. Deadline to submit names for these ceremonies is set at 10 Aug. The following is an overview of scheduled events we will attend:

Saturday 08 Sep at approximately 0830 hours we will parade the Colours and attend the ceremony that commences the Operation Switchback March. At approximately 1030 hours we will do a wreath laying ceremony at the Moerbrugge Memorial. In the afternoon at 1400 hours we will do a wreath laying ceremony at the IJzendijke Memorial. Following this ceremony we can visit memorials to Canadian Units in the area as time permits.

Sunday 09 September we will depart the Barracks at 0730 hours have breakfast somewhere on route to Adegem. At approximately 0900 hours proceed to the Canadian War Cemetery in Adegem where we will parade the Colours and attend the Liberation of Belgium Ceremony. Following the ceremony we will attend the reception at the community center in Adegem. Visit the Canadian Museum for lunch and return to the Barracks. Further details of these events will be announced at a later date.

09-10 Oct 212 The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada Regimental Association will visit Fort MacLeod in Delinghofen where there unit was stationed 1957 - 1963. They are anticipating 60 to 70 members to take part many of them were stationed at Fort MacLeod. The plan is to unveil a unit plaque in Delinghofen, visit the cemetery in Werl and pay their respects with a ceremony where some of their comrades are laid to rest. Zone will provide a Colour Party for these events. More information will be provided as it becomes available.


03-04 Nov 2012 - Friday 02 Nov a Colour Party will depart for France to take part in the Annual Remembrance Day Ceremonies at Beaumont-Hamel on Saturday 03 Nov followed by the Vimy Ceremony on Sunday 04 Nov. Deadline to submit names for these ceremonies is set at 5 Oct. Timings, accommodations and details of the events to be announced at a later date.

11 Nov 2012 Branch 001 will conduct their Branch Remembrance Day Ceremony at their Branch Memorial located in the Canadian Section of the Söllingen Cemetery. For more information contact an executive member of the Branch.

11 Nov 2012 Branch 002 will conduct their Branch Remembrance Day Ceremony at their Branch Memorial located in the Canadian Section of the Bergfriedhof in Lahr. For more information contact an executive member of the Branch.

?? Nov 2012 Branch 003 will conduct their Branch Remembrance Day Ceremony in support of the Military Members in Geilenkirchen at the Canadian War Cemetery in Groesbeek the Netherlands. For more information contact an executive member of the Branch.

11 Nov 2012 Branch 004 Remembrance Day Ceremony. For information contact an executive member of the Branch.

?? Nov 2012 Branch 005 will conduct their Branch Remembrance Day Ceremony at the Canadian National Memorial "Man With Two Hats" in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands. For more information contact an executive member of the Branch.

18 Nov 2012 Sunday 18 Nov Branch 001 will host a Remembrance Ceremony at Choloy, France, commemorating the 332 Canadians buried there. Members of other Branches are also welcome and encouraged to attend. Members will meet at the Cemetery in Choloy at 1430 hours. The Colours will be parades to the Cross of Remembrance where the ceremony will take place. Following the ceremony members will have the opportunity to visit grave of friends. This ceremony is considered basically a day trip so following the ceremony we will depart for home.

Note: All dates are subject to change. Branches will be notified of amendments, as additional information becomes available. Future requests received by Zone for additional ceremonies we may be required to attend will also be added to this list as an amendment notification. This schedule will also be published on the Zone Webpage at www.rcl-europe.org and updated as required.

Information and details regarding the ceremonies will also be posted on the Zone Webpage under the Coming Events Tab prior to the ceremony.

This schedule was distributed to Branches on 23 November 2009 and will be amended as necessary by the Zone Commander. Additional information pertaining to the schedule and further requests for ceremonies are to be forwarded to the Zone Commander for consideration.
